Jaguar Land Rover Halts Production Due to Cyberattack
Luxury automaker Jaguar Land Rover announced on Tuesday that it will not resume vehicle manufacturing until at least September 24, following a cyberattack earlier this month.
In a statement, the company informed employees, suppliers, and partners that the production halt has extended into its third week. The delay is attributed to the complex process of safely restarting global operations, which requires careful management.
Laura Savvas, a spokesperson for Jaguar Land Rover, owned by Indian automotive conglomerate Tata Motors, declined to provide further details when contacted by TechCrunch.
According to the BBC, the ongoing shutdown is projected to cost the company at least £50 million (around $68 million) each week due to lost production, as the company typically produces about 1,000 vehicles weekly. The Telegraph estimated the weekly losses could be as high as £72 million (nearly $100 million).
The extended shutdown has also raised concerns among suppliers who fear they may not withstand such a prolonged disruption and could face bankruptcy.
