At Meta Connect 2025 on Wednesday, the company revealed its latest innovation: the Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses, designed specifically for athletes such as runners and cyclists. Priced at $499, the glasses are set to debut on October 21.

Key Features and Design

Meta Connect, the social media giant’s flagship annual event, serves as the platform for launching new smart glasses and VR headsets. The Oakley Meta Vanguard boasts a sleek, unified front lens, replacing the dual-camera setup found in previous Meta models like the Oakley Meta HSTN. It is equipped with a 12-megapixel camera capable of capturing videos in up to 3K resolution, featuring a 122-degree wide-angle lens for expansive shots.

One innovative element is the programmable button, which can trigger custom AI prompts configured through the Meta AI app. The placement of the buttons underneath the glasses ensures comfort during activities, allowing athletes to wear helmets seamlessly.

Battery Life and Charging

Designed for endurance, the Oakley Meta Vanguard offers up to nine hours of battery life and six hours of continuous music playback. Its accompanying charging case extends usage by an additional 36 hours. Meta highlights the quick charging feature: a 20-minute charge provides 50% power.

Superior Audio and Durability

The glasses feature open-ear speakers, which are six decibels louder than those on the Oakley Meta HSTN, making them the most powerful on Meta’s glasses to date. A five-microphone array minimizes wind noise during calls and voice interactions with Meta AI. With an IP67 rating, they are dust and water-resistant, ideal for rigorous activities. The wraparound design incorporates Oakley’s PRIZMTM Lens technology, shielding users from sun, wind, and dust.

Athletic Integration and Customization

Tailored for sports enthusiasts, the glasses can connect with Garmin smartwatches to display metrics such as heart rate and pace in real-time. They also sync with Strava, allowing users to overlay performance statistics onto videos and photos captured with the glasses, and sharing directly to their Strava community.

The Oakley Meta Vanguard comes in four color combinations:

Regional Availability

Initially available in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, the glasses will later launch in Mexico, India, Brazil, and the UAE later this year.

Additional Announcements

This launch follows Meta’s recent unveiling of the Oakley Meta HSTN glasses, aimed at athletes and fans alike, as well as new Ray-Ban smart glasses featuring a built-in display for apps, photos, and directions. Meta also announced the Ray-Ban Meta 2, boasting twice the battery life of its predecessor and 3K Ultra HD video capture.
