Anker Recalls 481,000 Power Banks Due to Fire Risk
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) has officially announced a recall of approximately 481,000 Anker power banks following reports of fires, explosions, and injuries. The recall affects five models of external batteries used to charge smartphones and tablets, with one model featuring a wireless charging pad.
Details of the Recall
Since the beginning of the year, the USCPSC received 33 reports involving the power banks igniting or exploding, resulting in four minor burn injuries and significant property damage in one case. The models involved are:
- Anker Power Bank (model A1257 and A1647)
- Anker MagGo Power Bank (model A1652)
- Anker Zolo Power Bank (models A1681 and A1689)
The model numbers are located on the back or side of each power bank. These products were sold through retailers such as Best Buy, Target, Amazon, AliExpress, Walmart, eBay, and TikTok from August 2023 to June 2025.
Anker’s Response
While Anker states that the chance of a malfunction is “considered minimal,” they recalled the affected units out of “abundance of caution” after discovering a potential issue with lithium-ion batteries supplied by one of their providers.
Consumer Safety Instructions
Consumers owning a recalled unit are urged to:
- Stop using the power bank immediately
- Dispose of it safely at a facility equipped to handle lithium-ion batteries (do not dispose of it in trash, recycling bins, or retailer battery collection boxes)
Anker is offering a full refund or a gift card for purchased products. To claim this, consumers must:
- Fill out a refund form
- Provide the serial number (found on the back or side of the device)
- Submit proof of purchase
