Apple Expands Tap to Pay on iPhone to Five Additional European Countries
Apple has announced the expansion of its Tap to Pay on iPhone feature to five more European nations: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Monaco, and Norway. This new development allows millions of merchants across these countries to accept contactless payments directly through their iPhone, offering a seamless and secure transaction experience.
Seamless Contactless Payments Made Easy
With Tap to Pay on iPhone, businesses can now accept contactless payments from credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and various digital wallets. Compatible with iPhone Xs and newer models running the latest iOS version, this feature eliminates the need for additional hardware or payment terminals. During checkout, customers simply hold their contactless card, iPhone, Apple Watch, or other digital wallets near the merchant’s iPhone to complete the payment securely via NFC technology.
Collaboration with Leading Payment Platforms
Apple has partnered with key payment platforms and app developers to facilitate the integration of Tap to Pay on iPhone into various iOS applications. This collaboration makes it straightforward for merchants of all sizes to enable contactless payments in their storefronts or on the go.
Supported Countries and Payment Platforms
The rollout begins today, with specific platforms available in each country:
- Estonia: SumUp, Revolut
- Latvia: SumUp
- Lithuania: SumUp, Revolut
- Monaco: Adyen, BNP Paribas
- Norway: Adyen, Nexi, PayPal, Stripe, SumUp, Surfboard Payments, Viva.com
In addition to supporting Apple Pay, the system also accepts contactless cards from major networks, including American Express, Mastercard, Visa, and BankAxept (in Norway).

Apple emphasizes privacy and security in all its payment solutions. Transactions made through Tap to Pay on iPhone are encrypted and processed via the Secure Element, ensuring customer data remains confidential. Apple does not store or have knowledge of the specifics of each purchase or the identity of the buyer.
Global Availability and Considerations
Currently available in 43 countries and regions worldwide, Tap to Pay on iPhone continues to expand its reach. It’s important to note that some contactless cards may not be accepted in certain locations, and transaction limits may apply.
