Framework Adjusts DDR5 RAM Pricing Amid Rising Memory Costs
The modular PC manufacturer Framework has announced another increase in the prices of its DDR5 RAM modules due to ongoing supply chain disruptions and rising memory costs. In an update released on Wednesday, the company disclosed that it will now charge $10 per GB for 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB RAM variants, with slightly higher prices for 48GB and larger modules.
Recent Price Changes and Impact
Earlier this month, Framework revealed a previous price hike, citing significantly higher costs from suppliers and distributors. The recent adjustments have notably increased the cost of the various configurations:
- 8GB module: from $60 to $80
- 16GB module: from $120 to $160
- 32GB module: from $240 to $320
- 48GB module: from $240 (as of June 2025) to $620
- 64GB (2 x 32GB): $640
- 96GB (2 x 48GB): $1,240
These price increases affect the memory options available with Framework’s DIY Edition laptops. Currently, the company is not selling standalone DDR5 modules to maintain inventory control. Instead, users can order the laptop without memory and supply their own modules—either reusing existing ones or choosing more affordable options via a PCPartPicker link provided on Framework’s website.
Future Outlook
Framework warns that this likely won't be the final price increase, as suppliers expect memory prices to continue rising into early 2026. The company has absorbed some of the additional costs to keep their prices stable but may need to implement further increases soon.
> "We have absorbed and continue to absorb some of the price increases to be able to offer this new pricing, but it is very likely we’ll need to adjust module prices again within the next month," Framework states. "We’ll only increase prices to cover increases in costs, and we’ll bring prices back down as costs come down in the future."
Industry-wide Memory Shortage
The International Data Corporation predicts that the global memory shortage will persist into 2027, as major memory manufacturers like Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix shift focus toward the more profitable AI industry, further straining supply chains.
