John Higgins, a senior reviewer with over 20 years of experience in TVs and audio, recently highlighted LG’s latest addition to the growing art TV category. This market has seen considerable expansion beyond Samsung’s popular The Frame, with recent entrants from TCL and Hisense. LG now joins the fray with its own innovative model: the LG Gallery TV.

Overview of the LG Gallery TV

The LG Gallery TV is designed as a mini-LED display that aims to offer an art-like viewing experience. It leverages LG’s Gallery+ service launched earlier this year, which provides thousands of display visuals—ranging from classic artwork and cinematic scenes to gaming imagery. While there is a limited free option, full access to Gallery+ features requires a subscription, similar to Samsung’s Art Store.

Distinction from LG’s G Series OLED TVs

It’s important not to confuse the new Gallery TV with LG’s G Series OLED models, such as the LG G5. The G Series was formerly known as the Gallery Series until recently. The Gallery TV is primarily a mini-LED model with a specialized matte screen designed to reduce glare and reflections, enhancing the art-like experience.

Technical Specifications and Features

Although LG has not disclosed detailed backlight configurations, it’s believed that the TV adopts edge lighting technology, consistent with other art-focused TVs. The choice of mini-LED technology offers more uniform lighting and control compared to traditional LED screens, although OLED displays typically provide superior picture quality.

A key consideration is OLED’s susceptibility to burn-in if an image is displayed for extended periods—something that mini-LED screens mitigate by design.

Design and Customization

Taking inspiration from Hisense, LG includes a decorative frame with the Gallery TV. The default frame is white, and consumers can purchase an additional wood-colored frame to complement their interior decor. The available sizes are 55 and 65 inches, with pricing yet to be announced.

Availability

The LG Gallery TV is expected to be released soon, though specific pricing details remain unavailable at this time.
