Ayaneo Teases Its First Smartphone as a Gaming-Focused Device

Ayaneo, the company famous for its retro-inspired handhelds, has confirmed it’s developing its first smartphone. The project was briefly hinted at in August during the event where Ayaneo unveiled its dual-screen Pocket DS.

Since many Ayaneo devices run a customized Android, adding cellular connectivity isn’t considered a stretch. Details about the handheld remain scarce, with a video offering only a quick glimpse of a fairly standard rectangular chassis. The clip appears to show dual cameras in the top-left corner and what could be shoulder buttons.

Android Central suggested the phone might adopt a sliding design similar to the Sony Xperia Play, hiding controls beneath the screen, but the video doesn’t provide enough evidence to confirm this.

Ayaneo isn’t alone in pursuing a gaming-first handset, but contemporary examples often prioritize the phone itself, pairing high-end silicon and cooling to handle intensive games. Physical controls are usually reserved for accessories, though Ayaneo could break from that trend. Whether the device will arrive in the US—or elsewhere—remains unclear, and no launch window has been announced.
