Disney and Lucasfilm have kept the plot of the upcoming Star Wars film under tight wraps, with the latest trailer offering the first real glimpse of the franchise’s return to theaters since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. The Mandalorian and Grogu return to the big screen on May 22, and the new footage teases a quest where the duo tracks Imperial warlords while crossing paths with the Hutt clan. There’s even a cheeky Martin Scorsese cameo teased in the trailer.

Among the newcomers is a mysterious figure named Embo, a reptilian bounty hunter unmistakable by his oversized metal-brimmed hat that doubles as a weapon, plus a bowcaster rifle reminiscent of Chewbacca’s. Embo first appeared in The Clone Wars and is known for his morally gray actions. It’s unclear whether he will reprise his animated role in live-action, but fans are buzzing about the potential.

Embo’s Clone Wars history shows a character who often walks a fine line between right and wrong. In his debut, he joined a bounty hunter squad that worked with Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka Tano to protect a farmer from pirate Hondo Ohnaka. He later appears in arcs where Obi-Wan infiltrates a bounty-hunter competition run by Count Dooku (Season 4) and another in which he’s hired to take down Padmé Amidala and Rush Clovis (Season 6).

Ultimately, Embo has long been a fan-favorite minor character, and his leap into live-action feels like a natural extension of Dave Filoni’s influence on The Mandalorian universe alongside Jon Favreau. How large a role he’ll play remains to be seen, though early chatter suggested he could be a major antagonist in the film.
