HBO has released the official teaser for House of the Dragon Season 3, signaling grim times for Rhaenyra Targaryen and a reawakened urge for a brutal clash over the Iron Throne.

Season 2 closed on a tense note: Tyland Lannister shoring up new alliances, Aegon departing from King’s Landing, and armies—Lannisters and the North among them—mobilizing for what felt like a longer, louder conflict. Yet the finale kept its powder dry for spectacle, and some fans called it a “70-minute trailer” for what was to come.

Showrunner Ryan Condal has since teased that Season 3 will tackle four major events drawn from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, with the new teaser underscoring that large-scale warfare is on the horizon.

The teaser sets a darker tone, shifting from the political maneuvering of Season 2 to outright armed confrontation. The mood shifts from scheming to battle-ready as the trailer unfolds. It starts with Alicent approaching Aemond on the throne, and he asks, “Where were you?” before cutting to Rhaenyra revealing what Alicent told her in the season’s finale, followed by a warning, “You cannot trust her.”

We also glimpse an injured Aegon moving through the woods with Larys, a new army led by James Norton as Ormund Hightower, and a tearful Rhaenyra while Daemon’s voice cuts in: “This is the moment you become queen.”

The trailer promises big clashes both at sea and on land. Among the waves, the anticipated Battle of the Gullet looms as one of Westeros’ bloodiest sea engagements. On land, the Battle Above the Gods Eye is teased, and the rumour mill is buzzing about Rhaenyra’s bid to retake King’s Landing and reclaim the Iron Throne.

There’s also a notable return for fans: Daeron Targaryen, Alicent’s younger son, who has been absent for a while but is confirmed to appear in Season 3.

More to follow as the battles get underway.
