Kensington's Expert Mouse TB800 EQ: A Slimmer, More Feature-Packed Wireless Trackball
Kensington is refreshing its Expert Mouse line with the TB800 EQ, a redesigned wireless trackball that trades a bulky shell for a slimmer silhouette while adding new controls. The update includes a built-in wrist rest and a more streamlined look reminiscent of the SlimBlade Pro Kensington launched in 2022, but with a richer feature set.
Key features and design notes:
- Slimmed-down chassis with an integrated wrist rest, giving a sleeker overall profile.
- Scroll system: keeps the original trackball’s dedicated scroll ring, which can be toggled between smooth vertical scrolling or stepped line-by-line movement. In addition, two side wheels provide horizontal scrolling and zooming, useful for video and audio editing timelines.
- Customizable controls: four large programmable buttons surround the trackball plus four additional buttons along the top. The top buttons are pre-configured for media playback and volume but are fully customizable via Kensington’s desktop software.
- Wheel management: the side wheels can be disabled individually using three switches on the underside if you don’t need them.
- Power and connectivity: the TB800 EQ uses a rechargeable battery that Kensington claims can last up to four months between charges. It connects wirelessly via Bluetooth or with an included 2.4GHz USB dongle, and a USB-C charging cable also enables a wired connection if you prefer.
- Availability and pricing: expected to launch later this year. The price at launch has been set at $129.99, with later updates clarifying that $129.99 is the current price (not $149.99).
Overall, the TB800 EQ combines a lighter, more ergonomic chassis with expanded multi-button and wheel-based navigation options, all while keeping the familiar trackball interface that longtime users rely on.
