Hoffman Defends Epstein Ties as Limited to Fundraising, DOJ Documents Hint at More Personal Connection
Reid Hoffman, the LinkedIn co-founder and venture capitalist, has said his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein was confined to fundraising, noting only a handful of calls, emails, and in-person meetings that ended in March 2018. Yet newly released U.S. Department of Justice documents point to a longer, more personal connection that has renewed scrutiny of a high-profile Democratic donor.
According to the documents, Hoffman first connected with Epstein through fundraising work tied to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, roughly five years after Epstein pled guilty to procuring a minor for prostitution and served time in jail. Over time, the two exchanged gifts—Hoffman receiving dumbbells and Epstein receiving a metal surfer statue—with Hoffman reportedly staying at Epstein’s Caribbean island and at Epstein’s townhouse on New York’s Upper East Side.
