Backrooms Real Carpet and Wallpaper Plaques Surface Ahead of A24 Film Release
Ahead of Kane Parsons’ upcoming A24 horror feature inspired by his viral Backrooms series, a batch of plaques bearing real-world samples from the original Backrooms location has popped up for sale online—and they’re currently sold out.
Origins of the Backrooms concept trace back to a 2019 4chan creepypasta describing an endless labyrinth of pale yellow, office-like rooms reached by “noclipping” out of reality. The idea surged in popularity after Kane Parsons, known online as Kane Pixels, shared a string of found-footage–style shorts in 2022. Those videos drew millions of views and helped spur an eventual feature adaptation from A24.
Although the Backrooms story is fictional, the iconic image behind it has tangible roots. The famous photo that sparked the lore was traced to a HobbyTown location before renovations, discovered by the building’s owner, Bob Mazza.
The real-world plaques On online marketplaces, a limited run of plaques has appeared that incorporate a segment of the actual carpet and wallpaper from the location tied to the original Backrooms imagery, along with a certificate of authenticity signed by Mazza. The items were initially listed for around $90 and have since sold out. Fans have suggested that more units could appear as materials allow.
Design and provenance Each plaque is a framed, side-by-side presentation: a photo from the viral room paired with an exterior shot of the HobbyTown storefront, flanked by two mini-frames that hold the carpet and wallpaper samples. Mazza notes in the listing that the property has changed hands and that he has since retired, meaning the supply is limited. He explains that only a finite number of plaques exist, with profits from earlier sales directed toward roof repairs and related work on the building. The seller mentions that additional carpet and wallpaper remnants may be used to produce further plaques until the supply runs dry.
Reddit chatter and restocks Reddit users have discussed the listings, with many hoping for restocks and even offers to purchase from others if new plaques become available. Some suggest reaching out to Mazza directly to check on potential restocks, while others remain hopeful that the official batches will return to sale soon.
